My History with Reiki

Michelle's first experience with Reiki was an impromptu healing that occurred in the mid 1980s. While attending an acupressure class, Michelle experienced a very bad asthma attack. The necessary "rescue"inhaler had been accidentally left at home. A young woman in the group came forward to ask if Reiki could be applied. Unfamiliar with Reiki, Michelle asked for an explanationand readily agreed to be a recipient of this healing method. After a short time, Michelle's asthma miraculously subsided and did not return that day. However, an overpowering feeling of love and peace filled her as well as an overpowering urge to hug the practitioner. When asked if that was a common result, the practitioner replied it was and that hugs were happily accepted.
Michelle began studying Reiki in 2009. She is an Usui Reiki Master, a Tibetan Reiki Master and a Chikara-Reiki-Do Master. She finds that by combining Energy Work with other complementary modalities achieves the highest benefit for all clients.

Reiki

Reiki is a spiritual practice developed, or said to have been rediscovered, in 1922 by Japanese Buddhist Mikao Usui and has since been adapted by various teachers in varying traditions worldwide. Although Reiki is a spiritual practice, it is not religious and it is practiced by people of all religious persuasions and beliefs. The word Reiki means universal life force energy. Western Reiki teaches that Reiki works in conjunction with the meridian energy lines and chakras through the use of the hand-positions, which normally correspond to the seven major chakras on the body. It is a natural and gentle healing method where the practitioner places hands on or just above the client's body and either uses set hand positions or intuitively places the hands where most needed. During healing, energy will flow to all the parts of the physical body and it also flows to the emotional levels where the true source of the illness may be located. Thus, it is another form of mind-body healing and Reiki can be used for anything as well as on people, animals and plants. Many people find Reiki healings to be an extremely profound experience both emotionally and spiritually.
Dr. Usui was an admirer of the works of Emperor Meiji. He summarized some of the emperor's works into a set of ethical principles to provide spiritual balance, which later became known as the Five Reiki Precepts or Principles. Translated into English, the Five Precepts are paraphrased as:
At least for today:
Do not be angry,
Do not worry,
Be grateful,
Work with diligence,
Be kind to people...
These are both guidelines for living and virtues worthy of practice for their intrinsic value.
